Family Therapy
Brief Family Therapy
- Is your child struggling with problem behaviors at home or at school?
- Does your child have big emotions that affect the whole family?
- Are you walking around on eggshells trying not to set them off?
Your family may be a good candidate for therapy using the Collaborative and Proactive Solutions (CPS) model by Ross Greene.
What is brief family therapy?
10-12 sessions total, over a period of 3-6 months
A combination of parent-only sessions and sessions with the whole family
Virtual and in-person options available
By using this approach, you will learn:
- How to view your child's behaviors through new lenses
- How to meet your child's needs while still addressing your concerns
- How to include your child in solving problems so that every family member is contributing to the solution
- How to teach your child skills they will need to be successful, both now and later in life
What happens in family therapy?
The first 2-3 sessions will be with parents-only to get a full picture of what is going on with your child. I will also give you an overview of the CPS model.
After that, we will invite your child into sessions to begin to use the model. At first, I will take the lead on using the model while explaining what I'm doing as we go. Gradually, you will take over as I step back and observe. I am available to help if you get stuck.
The last few sessions may be less frequent (every-other-week or even monthly) as you practice using the model at home. We will meet for check-ins and to troubleshoot if you have any questions.
